The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida Receives Grant to Conduct Outreach to Veterans in Rural Parts of Florida

The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida (EFOF) was selected by the Epilepsy Foundation of America as one of a handful of Epilepsy Foundation affiliates across the nation to receive a $10,000 grant to reach out to veterans, their families and professional health care providers in rural areas of Florida to educate them about the correlation between Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and epilepsy and where they can turn for assistance.

Pat Dean Penry Award Release

On December 3, 2011 at the 65th Annual Meeting of the American Epilepsy Society held in Baltimore, Maryland, Patricia Dean; respected local Miamian, was presented with one of societies highest honors; The J. Kiffin Penry Excellence in Epilepsy Care Award.

The award, originally established in 1997, honors Dr. Penry’s legacy and his lifelong focus and genuine care for his patients with epilepsy.  The award is given annually in recognition of individuals who make a major impact on patient care and improve the quality of life for persons with epilepsy as well as recognize excellence in care for persons with epilepsy.

Team Epilepsy rallies Facebook fans to fund summer camp for kids with seizure disorders

Miami, FL June 1, 2011 -- Children with epilepsy in Florida are packing their bags for summer camp fun thanks to the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida's recent victory in Chase Community Giving Big Idea contest. The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida (EFOF) won a $45,000 prize that will help send more than a hundred Florida children for a week of laughter and friendship on the 232 acres of tall pines, majestic oaks and nature trails at Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis, Florida.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida (EFOF) was awarded $25,000 in the first round of the Chase Community Giving Spring 2011 program, and is seeking community support to win the program's $500,000 grand prize. EFOF was one of 100 first round winners nationally in the Chase Community Giving's Big Idea program, in which hundreds of thousands of charities communicated their mission and solicited votes on Facebook. Round 2 of the Chase Community Giving's Big Idea program begins May 19th and continues only through May 25th.

EFOF's chance at $500,000 will be based on the number of votes the organization receives on the Facebook page. Egozi estimates that nearly 200,000 Facebook votes will be necessary to win.
