The Epilepsy Foundation Of Florida Receives Peacock Foundation Inc., Grant For Case Management And Quality Assurance
The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida (EFOF) received a $35,000 grant from Peacock Foundation Inc., of Miami, Florida to institute a Quality Assurance function for Medical Case Management Programs and to hire an additional Case Manager.
“We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Peacock Foundation, Inc. There is a wonderful alignment between our two organizations in working to help South Floridians achieve self-sufficiency. For 40 years the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida has been serving Floridians living with seizure disorders and their families; a key focus is to increase our clients’ independence to ensure they can continue with school, re-enter or stay in the workforce and take care of their families” said the EFOF chief executive officer, Karen Basha Egozi.
The particular emphasis of this grant is to ensure EFOF has the necessary tools to improve effectiveness, efficiency and flexibility while also allowing the organization to keep up with an increased demand for services. To achieve this, the grant will allow for establishing a quality assurance specialist and an additional medical case manager.
“I’m pleased to see the partnership and collaboration between two terrific Florida organizations, working together to meet the needs of so many Floridians. I’m also impressed to see how EFOF continues to strive for excellence as it looks for ways to improve their delivery of services” noted Florida State Representative Jeanette Nuñez who represents the district in which the EFOF headquarters resides. Rep. Nuñez went on to comment “Epilepsy is one of those chronic and common medical conditions yet many people are unaware of its prevalence. A recent Institute of Medicine report noted that 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime; ignorance about this disorder is not a luxury our community can afford.”
Egozi noted “I am proud this funder recognizes the importance of quality control in striving for excellence in serving the needs of people with epilepsy. We thank Peacock Foundation, Inc., for its fiscally responsible and compassionate vision in helping others.”
The Epilepsy Foundation of Florida (EFOF) was established in 1971 as a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) and serves as the lead advocate for rights and needs of the 375,000 Floridians with epilepsy and seizure disorders. With offices in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Gainesville and Pensacola – EFOF provides counseling, education, seizure prevention services along with direct medical and psychological services. EFOF is designated a high value charity; 91% of expenditures go directly to program costs. For more information, visit www.epilepsyfla.org or call 877-553-7453.
