Every day, millions of people find themselves in the hands and care of the hospitality industry.  There are over 20 million people who go on a cruise a year.  Approximately 3.3 billion people will fly on a plane.  And every day, 4.7 million people stay at a hotel.  When 1 in 26 people live with epilepsy, and 1 in 10 will have a seizure in their lifetime, seizure awareness and first aid is more pivotal than ever.  Epilepsy is still one of the most misunderstood disorders, despite it being one of the most common.

Due to the overwhelming need, the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida has created a training program specific to three arms of the hospitality industry: Cruising, Flight, and Boarding.  These custom training resources have been created as a result of a real life experience, when one of our staff members was on vacation on a cruise when another passenger suffered a seizure and no one around, including the crew, knew how to respond.  Had she not been there, there could have been a very different outcome.  We exist to help spread epilepsy awareness, so we want to equip hospitality teams with a basic understanding of what epilepsy is and what to do when someone is having a seizure.
